Practice Problems for Exams

Final Exam Saturday, December 4, 3:00 – 6:00 pm 102 Bradley Hall

The review session for the Final Exam will take place on Friday, December 3, 5:00 – 7:00 pm in 102 Bradley Hall.

The exam covers material from Chapter 1, Sections  1–5 and 7–9, Chapter 2, Sections  1–3, Chapter 3, Sections  1 and 2, Chapter 4, Sections  1–6, Chapter 5, Sections  1–4, and Chapter 6, Sections  1–3 with emphasize on Chapters 5 and 6.

For a practice exam click here. Please note that this is simply an old exam from the previous year that may or may not reflect material that will be covered on the Final Exam. You may well see completely different types of problems on the actual exam. Or may be not.

The following problems are suggested for review for the Final Exam. Review problems for the chapters covered in the Midterm Exams are listed in the corresponding sections below. It is not the standard practice exam, so you do not have to be able to solve all these problems in three hours. The final exam will not contain more than 9-11 problems, so if you wish to test your knowledge take random 9-11 problems out of the ones suggested and try to solve them in three hours. Additionally, please review the regular homework problems and especially the practice problems that were often assigned.
  • Chapter 5 problems 3, 7, 9, 17, 19 for Section 2 (pp. 317, 318), problems 1, 3, 5, 11, 17, 23, 27, 31 for Section 3 (pp. 325, 326), problems 3, 5, 7, 9, 13, 19, 27 for Section 4 (pp. 333, 334), and supplementary exercise 1 (p. 370, what covered in class only).
  • Chapter 6 problems 5, 7, 9, 15, 17, 25, 29, 31 for Section 1 (pp. 382, 383), problems 5, 7, 9, 13, 15, 21, 27, 33 for Section 2 (pp. 392, 393), problems 1, 5, 9, 11, 15, 17, 23 for Section 3 (pp. 400, 401), and supplementary exercise 1 (p. 444, what covered in class only).

Second Midterm Exam Tuesday, November 9, 6:00 – 8:00 pm Silsby Room 028

The review session for the Second Midterm Exam will take place on Monday, November 8, 6:00 – 7:30 pm in 102 Bradley Hall.

The exam covers material from Chapter 3, Sections  1 and 2; Chapter 4, Sections 1–6 and Chapter 5, Section 1.
