Exams

There will be two midterm examinations and a final examination. These exams are scheduled as follows:

Exam 1	Monday, October 22, 2001	Rooms TBA	6 - 8pm
Exam 2	Monday, November 12, 2001	Rooms TBA	6 - 8pm

The Registrar's Office schedules the final exam, which will occur during the period December 6 - 10. If you must make travel plans before the schedule for final exams appears, do not make plans to leave Hanover before December 11. Exams will not be given early to accommodate travel plans.

Homework Policy

• Homework will be assigned daily and will be due at the beginning of the next class meeting. This year all homework assignments will be submitted via the web, so deadlines are enforced electronically. More details are posted on the course assignment's web page .
• Larger projects will be assigned throughout the term and count significantly towards your grade.  The first of the projects will be assigned after or during the second week in October.  Each will be due at a date and time specified when the project is assigned.  Each instructor will give his class specific instructions regarding the projects.  See the "section specific notes" linked above.
• Late homework/projects will not be accepted.
• Unexcused late and missing papers count zero.

While the homework scores do not officially count towards your final grade (see next section), we strongly recommend that you keep up with the homework. Not only does it allow you to practice and refine your skills but, historically, those students who do the homework sets regularly fair better on the exams.

Grades

The course grade will be based upon the scores on the two midterm exams, the final exam and the projects for the course.

The Honor Principle

On Exams: No help given or received

On Homework: Collaboration is permitted and encouraged, but NO COPYING . Of course, since WeBWorK generally gives each student a unique problem, copying would be pointless. On the other hand a discussion of the general idea of the problem(s) is desirable.

On Projects:  Each project will have collaboration/honor principle information listed on the front of the project.  Students are responsible for reading and following the guidelines for each project.   Note that the guidelines may change from project to project.

Tutorials

Tutorial assistance for this course, that is, help with your homework, will be available in Bradley 101, Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays evenings 7 - 10pm. Tutorials will begin on Thursday, September 27.

Also note that the Tutor Clearinghouse will have private one-on-one tutors available for Math 9. The tutors are recruited on the basis that they have done well in the subject, and are trained by the Academic Skills Center. If a student receives financial aid, the College will pay for three hours of tutoring per week. If you would like to have a tutor, please go to 301 Collis and fill out an application as early in the term as possible.

Disabilities

Students with disabilities who will be taking this course and may need disability-related classroom accommodations are encouraged to make an appointment to see their instructor as soon as possible.
