Be sure to review your options, based on your midterm score, for writing the final

paper. The paper must be a research paper, 7 double-spaced pages in length. Its

mathematical content must be at least 20% of the total paper. All papers must involve
mathematical ideas and, where there is overlap, must go significantly beyond what is
covered in class. The topic must be taken from the midterm list, or must be agreed
upon in advance, on an individual basis, in conversation with either Dwight or Josh.
The grading categories will be the same as those for the midterm. And remember, as
with the midterm, we want to see that you understand what you are writing about. A
page of undeciphered formulas or terms without an explanation in plain English will
result in a low grade. Also, don't forget to consult the Student Writing section of the
Math 5 website for tips on good writing.

We will hand out the problems by Wednesday, March 1, in class.
