Study Group

The academic skills center will be holding a Math 13 study group on Wednesdays from 9-10:30 P.M. beginning Jan 22, 2014.  Study groups are an excellent way to get extra course support in a very small group setting.   You can sign up for the study group by going to http://studygroups.dartmouth.edu and Flyer

Homework

Homework will be of two types:

1. Webwork (Link), normally due at 10:00 AM Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

2. A weekly written assignment to be turned in at the beginning of class each Wednesday.

When we determine your final homework grade at the end of the term, we will consider not only your homework scores but also your consistency of effort. Homework is meant to be a learning experience. We don't expect you always to get all the problems but do expect you to give it your best shot. Your grades on each assignment are intended to give you feedback on your understanding of the material.

Your written homework must be stapled to prevent pages being lost. Please do not use paper clips!

You will find the class time much more beneficial if you read the material in the text in advance of each lecture.

Late Homework Policy

It is very important to keep up with the material and to turn your homework in on time. If your homework is late due to illness or other appropriate reason, please bring it to your instructor before submitting it so that instructor can mark it "excused late". If you simply fall behind, you may still turn in your homework although it will be recorded as late. It will be at the grader’s discretion whether to grade it or just record that it was turned in.

Exams

There will be two midterms and a cumulative final exam

Grading

Final grade will be computed according to the following scheme

Written Homework 10%
Webwork 10%
Exam I 25%
Exam II 25%
Final 30%

Withdrawing

Please note that the registrar has determined that Feb. 25, 2014 is the last day to withdraw from a course (Winter 2014 Term Calendar).

Honor Principle

Pertaining to the homework, while you are encouraged to discuss problems with other students, the solutions that you subsequently turn in are to be written on your own, in your own words, to show your final understanding of the problems. Please indicate at the top of your assignment whom, if anyone, you are working with.
For exams, you may not consult any source, animate or inanimate, other than the instructor. Calculators will not be permitted on exams.

Student with disabilities

Any student with a documented disability needing academic adjustments or accommodations is requested to speak with your instructor early in the term. All discussions will remain confidential.  Students who think they may have a disability but are not sure are encouraged to consult with the Academic Skills Center. Contact: Ward Newmeyer (Director of Student Accessibility Services).
