Homework Assigments

Jump to homework assignments.

In Math 13 you have a number of responsibilities, the first of which is being fully aware of the content of the general information page.

In particular, that page contains:

There are web-based homework assignments which are due before each class period, as well as written assignments which are due once a week. Further details are provided both by the above links (but you've looked at those already) as well as below.

Web-based homework assigments

The daily web-based problems can be accessed via the WeBWorK Login link on the navigation bar at the top of the page.

It is highly recommended that you keep a notebook in which you write up your WeBWorK homework (including your work as well as the answers). Then when you are studying for exams, you will have a record of your work two which to refer.

Written homework assigments

The weekly written homework assignments will be posted here.

  • Preliminary Exam: The preliminary exam was more difficult that I had hoped. The median was 46 (out of a total of 75). You can see a hist-o-gram of the scores here with additional statistics. I will send you a link to solutions in a canvas announcement.

The message here is that we both have to work harder. You have to study more efficiently, and I have to present the material more clearly. Even though it is too early to think about grades, here are some very approximate guidelines as to where you stand gradewise.

    • Ignore any percentage columns in Canvas. I have posted score out of 15 for your first two written homeworks, and another score out of 15 for your first seven webworks. Add this to your score out of 75 for the preliminary exam. (Canvas does not do the sum -- you have to do this yourself.) This gives you a number our of 105.
    • Totals of 85 or more are doing "A" work.
    • Totals of 60 or more are doing "B" work.
    • Totals of 50 or more are doing "C" work.
    • Student with total score less than 50 should see me in office hours.

    • A very rough idea of how you are doing in the course can be computed as follows. On canvas, I have given you a grade out of 40 for your first 5 written homeworks and other grade also out of 40 for your first 13 webwork assignments. Adding these scores to you two exam grades gives you a number out of $75 + 125 + 40 +40 =280$. Totals above 210 are doing "A" work. Totals above 163 are doing "B" work. Totals above 140 are doing "C" work. If your total is below 140, we should talk.
